Passage
"The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?"
Jeremiah 17:9
Perspective
"Follow your heart".
I used to picture an unfolded map in the shape of a heart, revealing signs of danger, dashed lines, and a big red X, marking the hidden treasure.
It's an exciting concept, really!
The idea that our hearts can be trusted and followed as an unfailing guide to a life-changing achievement.
The belief that the purpose of life is to embark in a treacherous, yet adventurous journey.
The dream that once we (enter achievement), we'll finally feel (enter desirable feeling).
Then I came across Jeremiah's warning:
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?"
Deceitful above all? Desperately wicked? Wildly unpredictable?
Why would anyone follow their heart?!

Prayer
God,
Thank you for giving me a heart capable of love, compassion, and devotion.
I know that my heart is not always attuned to your truth.
In the midst of life's distractions, my heart often wanders astray.
I am tempted to follow the map of my heart.
I don't want to keep searching for treasure in fleeting pleasures.
Help me tune my heart daily to Your Spirit.
Teach me to align my desires with Your will.
Show me how to live and love like Christ.
Thank you for your grace.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.
I prayed this

Heart is an Instrument.
